How did you first become involved in the world of design? Tell us your story.
My journey into interior design began at a young age, growing up in a household that celebrated creativity and craftsmanship. I was deeply inspired by watching my parents design and build our family home in India, working closely with a female architect. The collaborative process between them and the architect left an indelible mark on me—it was my first real insight into the transformative power of design. I pursued architecture as my first profession, working at Allies & Morrison and later at Candy & Candy, where I contributed to projects like One Hyde Park in London. It was during this time that my passion for interiors truly flourished. A refurbishment project within One Hyde Park became the catalyst for founding Elicyon in 2014. Since then, our studio has grown into a global name in luxury interior design, creating deeply personal and extraordinary spaces for clients worldwide.
When designing a room, what is the most crucial aspect for you? Talk us through your design process.
For me, the most important aspect of designing a room is understanding the client’s narrative. Each space needs not only to function beautifully, but also resonate with the client’s lifestyle, values, and aspirations. Our process begins with an in-depth discovery phase, where we collaborate closely with the client to understand how they live, work, and relax. This informs every decision, from the spatial layout to the choice of materials and finishes. We focus on layering textures, patterns, and bespoke details to create a sense of depth and timelessness. Lighting is another crucial element, as it can completely transform a space. Whether through bespoke fixtures or the careful placement of natural light, we ensure each room is imbued with a warm, inviting atmosphere. Ultimately, it’s about achieving harmony between beauty and practicality—spaces that not only inspire but also feel effortlessly liveable.
To be a good designer, you need to have an innate interest in people and the way in which they live, or want to live, in their home.
How would you define your signature style?
Elicyon’s style is intentionally eclectic and ever-evolving. We take pride in not adhering to a singular aesthetic or being led by trends. Instead, our work is driven by the architecture of the space, the personality of the client, and the story we want to tell through the design. Our projects often blend modern craftsmanship with subtle vintage references. You’ll find elegant curves, tactile materials, and bespoke detailing throughout our work, but the true hallmark of Elicyon’s style lies in its individuality. Every project is a reflection of its owner—a unique and deeply personal interpretation of luxury.
How do you balance aesthetics and functionality in your projects?
Balancing aesthetics and functionality is the cornerstone of our design philosophy. While beauty is undoubtedly essential, a space must work seamlessly for those who live within it. We achieve this balance by deeply immersing ourselves in our clients’ lives, understanding their routines and priorities. For instance, in family homes, we integrate child-friendly design elements without compromising elegance. In more formal spaces, we ensure a sense of grandeur is paired with ease of use. Practicality is often woven into the design through bespoke solutions—hidden storage, multi-functional furniture, and ergonomic layouts. At the same time, we craft a visual narrative that celebrates exceptional materials, striking art, and bespoke craftsmanship. It’s this fusion of thoughtful utility and timeless elegance that defines Elicyon’s approach to luxury living.
