In 1971, Dino Gavina introduced “l’opera d’arte funzionale”, pioneering a new approach where surreal objects were adapted for daily use, giving rise to the Ultramobile collection. Among them was the Bird Leg Table, designed in 1939 by Meret Oppenheim for Leo Castelli’s avant-garde gallery. Featuring slim legs and taloned bronze feet, it paid homage to claw-foot furniture. In the 1970s, Simon International produced a limited edition, now faithfully reissued by Cassina as Traccia in Gold.
