Born and raised on Murano Island, the cradle of Venetian glassmaking, Luca Nichetto mixes northern and southern European influences to create a unique artistic world. His design expands to reach distant horizons, in a constant search for beauty within function.
Luca Nichetto was born in 1976 in Venice, the Italian cradle of art and craftsmanship. From the very beginning, his artistic talent were inspired and powered by its origins and the Murano glassmaking tradition. His career effectively started from a young age, when he spent his holidays selling his designs to local factories.
Graduated in 1998 from the Iuav University of Venice, he joined the Murano-based glassmaker Salviati, where he started approaching the matter, laying the foundations for his aesthetics and unique style. Five years after the foundation of his Venetian studio, he moved to Stockholm where he opened his second studio, combining his Italian flair with the Swedish spirit of modernity and sustainability.
Over the years, Luca Nichetto has worked as art director form many international design brands, enhancing his talent and becoming a multidisciplinary designer. He collaborated with several Italian brands such as La Manufacture, Illulian, Nodus and Casamania, working with his unique vocabulary of materials and palettes. His design process is holistic and meticulous and begins with a deep understanding of the matter, merging different kind of approaches to design, innovation and manufacturing.
The concepts we design can objectify just as well into a pencil, a chair, a building or a brand. We tell emotional tales built on a vocabulary of materials and animated by a grammar of form.
For four years Luca Nichetto has been La Manufacture’s art director, contributing to the definition of its identity and carrying on the philosophy of pairing the beauty of handwork with industrial precision and a multicultural heart. For Milan Design Week 2022, the collaboration brought La Manufacture to be exhibited at the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, under Nichett’s vision who gathered 17 internationally acclaimed designers in a conversation with the historical context of the Palace.
Luca Nichetto’s work is the reflection of his experience, and his design is characterized by a clean vision of the objects, where each part of the piece is functional and significant, free from frills and useless additions.
We find beauty in function, giving purpose to forms that range from objects, furniture, lighting, spaces, architecture to fashion.
